"Teater Muda di
Five Arts Centre"
(Five Arts Centre Young Theatre)
Teater Muda, (Young Theater, in Bahasa Malaysia) began as a research project
in May 1992, exploring a Malaysian multi-arts approach to theatre. It has
since been developed into a training programme for young Malaysians between
the ages of 10 and 16.
The aim is to expose young participants to a variety of traditional Malaysian
and contemporary arts, and to help equip them with skills in these areas
for their own creative uses.
This project is being documented with the aim of publishing a handbook and
video aide, that promulgates a Malaysian and multi-arts/integrated arts
approach for teachers and other adults who work with young people in the
theatre.
To date, Theatre Muda has trained about 100 children in Phases 1, 2, 3 and
4. Phase 5 is currently being conducted in Penang. Young people from Phases
1 and 2 participated in the production of Suara
Rimba while those from Phases 3 and 4 will participate in the forthcoming
Rama and Sita.
