Yadi and Madiz are bored out of their minds living in Jemapoh, a village so remote that cows are more plentiful than people and are also more interesting. The pair decide to steal a car and head to the mythical Manchester. Yadi dreams of seeing his favorite soccer team Manchester United, and Madiz longs to be reunited with his long-lost father, whom he heard was living in Liverpool, which he assumes is somewhere near Manchester. On the road, the pair meet a rocker from Singapore, skinheads and crazy kidnappers, all the while hoping that Manchester will pop up on a road sign before too long.
Hishmuddin Rais' debut feature film marks a significant departure from traditional Malaysian cinema in its fresh and youthful narrative expression, and emerges as part of a new wave of Southeast Asian cinema.

What happens when you're a Manchester United fan who lives somewhere in Jemapoh, Malaysia? Why, go to Manchester of course. This first road movie by debut director Hishammuddin Rais is an offbeat adventure across the country's multi-cultures. From meeting punk rockers and skinheads in a bar to encountering crazy kidnappers, this one pulls out all the stops. And yes, they do get stopped for speeding. Carburetor Dung in independent film & soundtracks!
Three songs were recorded by the band for Hishamuddin Rais' film Dari Jemapoh Ke Manchester which is scheduled to premier at the Singapore International Film Fest in April '98. The band also appear live on stage (with selected members Joe, Shahlan, Fendi & session drummer Shidee from Strummin' Wire) in a segment of the film. Dung also jammed with 60s a-go-go icon Kassim Selamat (The Swallows' vocalist). The songs are Oppression (with Fendi on main vocals), Boo Hoo Clapping Song (with Joe singing horribly!)and a new one, Happy (with Joe again!).
All were recorded when our vocalist Lee was away vacationing in Germany in mid-97. The old songs were particularly requested by Hisham! The film soundtrack, which will be out before April, also feature Damage Digital, Koffin Kanser, Republic Of Brickfields, Babushka and a solo instrumental by Jijoe.Extracted from the website of Carburetor Dung - Malaysia's own DIY punk rawk!Jemapoh's director/screenwriter, Hishamuddin Rais in cyberspace:
