    Career Objectives

    I hope to use my broad-based experiences in various communications platforms to spearhead the convergence of media for marketing communications purposes.  With 14 years in advertising per se, and in-depth experiences in public relations, theatre, broadcasting and publishing, I am inspired to look for new frontiers to explore where a combination of my skills, talents and interests can be fully exploited.

    Current Status

    Full-time free-agent; part-time multimediator.  I am taking a self-imposed recess from the corporate life for several months in order to re-assess, re-charge, and revise my options in life.  Meanwhile, I offer freelance creative consultancy, while making preparations for a long  vacation in Europe.  I hope to assume a professional appointment in September/October 1998.

  • Headed the Creative Department comprising more than 30 staff members, and six creative teams
  • Helped Agency win accounts such as Proton, Celcom, Public Bank, Pizza Hut, Lam Soon
  • Restructured traffic, print and audio-visual production, and presentation formats to incorporate state-of-art technologies and processes
  • Developed long-term career development paths for subordinates, helped intitiate internal training programmes, and cultivated better intra-departmental communications

    1986 - Winner of 6As Grand Prix for Best Print Advertising 1986 (Ericcson Telecommunications), for concept & copy

    1990 - Founded a freelance communications consultancy, Bootlegs Light Bulbs - based in Singapore, with a client-base in Singapore and Malaysia

    1991 - Conceived, produced and presented a fully-sponsored radio programme: Celcom On The Air.  In it's 3rd season the show became the first locally produced commercial programme to enjoy a multi-station weekly broadcast.

    1993 - Appointed as Deputy Creative Director for Bozell Worldwide Malaysia, after successfully managing the consolidation of Celcom, and the acquisition of Proton, advertising accounts.

    June, 1994 - Cast as a lead actor in TheatreWorks's theatre production of Scorpion Orchid for the Singapore Arts Festival 1994. Read a review here.  Re-enacted the role the following year in a Malaysian production staged for the Kuala Lumpur Arts Festival 1996, which was jointly produced by Five Arts Centre and Actors Studio.

    1995 - Promoted to the position of Creative Director at Bozell Worlwide Malaysia.

    September, 1996 - Began co-hosting TV3's Cyberwave - Malaysia's first IT-oriented weekly TV show. Read a review here.

    Pro-Bono Marketing Communications for the Arts
    In addition to performing and producing theatre - pro bono marketing communications advisor to theatre companies such as Five Arts Centre, and DramaLab.  Maintains websites for these groups as well as establishing a website for Hisahmuddin Rais's cult international filmfest movie, Dari Jemapoh ke Manchester.

    Internet-enthusiast, IT-populist:
    Maintains a first-level virtual domain at http://www.emuang.org, and is conversant in HTML, Javascript and CGI-scripting.  Regularly posts to the Sangkancil newsgroup/mail-list on social and internet-related topics. Subscribes to the Malaysian NETDAY news and discussion group, fashioned after NETDAY in USA: a grassroots volunteer effort to wire schools at lowest cost so they can network their computers and connect them to the Internet.
